SD Chapter of ASFMRA  SDSU  Scholarship

$1000 Scholarship for Academic Year 2010-2011
 
Date established: March 2004
 
First award: Spring of 2005 for the ’05-’06 school year
 
Type of scholarship: Established as an endowed fund. Principal is invested into perpetuity and earnings awarded (at a 5% payout rate) annually.
 
Purpose: Created to develop and support student interest in the rural appraisal, farm management, and agricultural consulting professions and to encourage students to become American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraiser (ASFMRA) chapter members.

 
Eligibility criteria:
Upper level undergraduate students enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Biological Sciences at SDSU will be eligible for this scholarship. A cumulative GPA of 2.5 minimum, or uper half of class ranking, is required - along with a stated interest in considering rural appraisal, farm management, or agricultural consulting as a career.


Other preferences:
If possible, the following preferences will also be considered

  1. Community service achievements and demonstrated leadership qualities,
  2. Completion of current enrollment in the Rural Estate Appraisal course (Econ 473 / Plant Science 473) or the successive course if this one is no longer offered at SDSU, the Farm and Ranch Management course (Ag Ed 271), and/or the Introduction to Integrated Range Management (Range Mangement 215),
  3. South Dakota resident,
  4.  
    Financial need.

 

 

Additional information:

Gifts to the SDSU Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organizations, are tax deductible. Those making contributions will be recognized as donors to the College of Agriculture and Biological Sciences in the annual "Honor Roll" publication. Representatives from the South Dakota Chapter of the ASFMRA are invited to present the award each year at the College of Agriculture and Biological Sciences' scholarship banquet.


How To Apply:
Students who meet the selection criteria, complete the attached application and are asked to write a one to two page essay explaining their career plans following graduation. Applications and essays are then emailed to the SD Chapter of ASFMRA scholarship selection committee. Following a review by the SD Chapter ASFMRA scholarship committee and SDSU College of Agriculture and Biological Sciences', an interview will be conducted in the 2010 spring semester at SDSU.

 

After the winner(s) are determined, SD Chapter of ASFMRA notifies the recipient(s) by letter indicating that a payment will be sent to the Students Admissions account from the SDSU Foundation.
